I Need Help
Some thoughts on the Mets' 12 game losing streak 🧡💙
Woof. Everything that we’ve all been thinking has already been said and consumed online so this isn’t going to be a rant-y article calling for Mendoza and Stears to lose their jobs. I’m sure we’ve all seen enough of that stuff on X, YouTube, etc… if you’re reading this somewhere deep in your tormented Mets fan soul you still have a little hope that this will turn around and the law of averages will start averaging. Maybe it will take Grimace phoning a friend and sending them our way to help turn this thing around. So I’d like to preface this with the fact that I will keep going to games. I will keep watching. And I’ll be there tonight because I’m a sick puppy and I need help, but I know I’m not the only one.
With that being said these are some things I’ve been chewing on while watching the past two weeks that I will try to write in a non emotional level headed way…
What has struck me the most is how this doesn’t even feel like watching The Mets. Sure the losing, suffering, and self deprecation is familiar, but on the field there’s no emotional attachment to most of these guys yet. This is a glob of players with ceilings to dream on, but ceilings we have not seen yet. There’s no bank of good memories with these guys to dip into when we go through a skid like this to remind us of what things MIGHT look like when they start to click again. Stearns took a bet on getting rid of “our guys” and so far… well you’ve been watching.
Stearns main point in his press conference at the end of the Mets collapse in 2025 was restructuring this team with run prevention paramount in his mind. Fast forward to this season half of our team is playing out of position. We traded an outfielder for a 2nd baseman, signed a SS to play 3B, signed another 2B to play 1B who is now hurt so the two 3B who have been competing for that spot for the last 3 years split time at 1B while sometimes playing RF. Hello???? Am I crazy??? Even when this team is fully healthy this team has multiple guys at very important positions playing out of position.
The law of averages have to start to balance things out… right??? Even if you were low on all the Mets moves this offseason. A 12 game losing streak and the worst record in the sport on April 22nd was not on the bingo card. It is HARD to lose 12 games in a row. Teams who are not even trying to win don’t lose 12 games in a row.
No teams have made the playoffs when enduring a 12 game losing streak. People keep throwing that stat around, but that is so far down the priority list right now. They need to worry about finishing over .500 and then we can start thinking about what it would take to sneak into a wild card spot.
Like I said. I’ll be back out there tonight to either see number 13 or the first win of a 12 game win streak. And I’ll keep going because I’m a sick puppy and I need help 🧡💙
